A commendably realistic drama focusing on the everyday lives of the staff and patients at the Henry Park Hospital, a fictional teaching hospital in the north west of England, Medics ran for five highly successful series.  The opening of a new cardiac unit is marred by tragedy, while the hospital continues to fight for funding for its transplant programme. Toby faces disciplinary action following a breach of confidence, Claire's baby is born amid complicated personal circumstances, and Jess's dreams of wedded bliss fail to materialise. Professor of Surgery Geoffrey Hoyt, meanwhile, deals stoically with the private agony of his wife's final days.

Medics is a commendably truthful drama, with the everyday lives and loves of the staff and patients of a large teaching hospital at its heart. It ran for five highly successful series between 1990 and 1995.
