I was lucky enough to go to the opening night of Let it Be, A Celebration of the Music of The Beatles, at the lovely Orchard Theatre in Dartford on Monday 27th June.
I have always been a fan of The Beatles and have seen many tribute acts in my time so I was very excited to have a chance to see this production.
This was basically the best of all tributes act. The production stated with The Beatles at the beginning of their career based in The Cavern in Liverpool belting out some of their early hits like She Loves You and Drive My Car. It was as good as the real thing and I was soon dancing in my seat!
As their career moved along we were with them all the way, the atmosphere was fantastic and the settings very clever. At one point the theatre was turned into a huge stadium with screaming fans displayed on the screens on the stage. We went through Beatlemania, The Beatles hitting America, the slightly hallucinogenic years and the hippy beardy years. They were all accompanied by great classic Beatles music. The settings were helped by clever costume changes and archived clips played on classic looking TV screens that were either side of the set.
They played hit after hit and I particularly enjoyed the Sgt Pepper part of the show as I love that album and they belted out song after song. It just got better as they went along.
The cast were great speaking in their Liverpool accents, encouraging the audience to stand up and dance, clap hands and sing along. Everyone seemed to join in and was having a fantastic time. I was up dancing with the best of them. The cast were very like the real members of The Beatles and captured their personalities and characteristics brilliantly.
40 hits were played and I would have happily heard more. I got a real feel of what it was like to be part of the mania and world of The Beatles.
It was a great show, the cast are all very talented musicians who seem to genuinely love the music and I enjoyed every second of it.
The Orchard Theatre has plenty of parking and is conveniently situated opposite the station. The staffs are polite, helpful and friendly and the theatre has plenty of seating all offering a good view of the stage.
I would recommend this show to anyone of any age, it is feel good, great fun, great music and everyone left with a smile on their face.
