Legally Blonde The Musical at the King’s Theatre Glasgow Review

Legally Blonde The Musical was total escapism – pink, fluffy and decadent!

Produced by Martin Dodd, Legally Blonde is running at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow until Saturday 28th April and continues to tour the UK until June.

Originally a hit film in 2001 starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde is based on the real-life experiences of the writer Amanda Brown as she made her way through Law School.

Elle Woods, played by Lucie Jones, is the girl everyone wants to be – smart, pretty, popular and rich but instead of the marriage proposal she expects from boyfriend Warner Huntington III, he breaks up with her as she isn’t serious enough and doesn’t fits his stereotype of a senator’s wife.

After wallowing in sorrow, Elle decides to fight back by enrolling (after much hard work) at Harvard Law School. Arriving unprepared for her first class, Elle is told to leave. She goes on to meets Emmet (David Barret) an associate who sets Elle on the right path and allows her to show everyone around her that there is more to Elle than meets the eye.

The show is exceptionally well cast – Rita Simons is made for the part of Paulette and Lucie Jones is outstanding as Elle.

The fabulous musical score is brought to life with the orchestra of seven, led by musical director James McCullagh.

The King’s Theatre is tradition in style. Set of four levels, it hosts an audience of 1700. We were sitting in the middle of the Grand Circle where we had a super view of the stage. The staff were welcoming and helpful during our visit. Situated on Bath Street, it is within walking distance of rail and bus stations. There is also on-street parking in the area.

Legally Blonde The Musical is a delightful and uplifting show, sure to be a night to remember.
