Legally Blonde: The Musical at Derby Theatre Review

5-8 September 2018

Based on the novel and the hit 2001 movie of the same name, Legally Blonde: The Musical follows the journey of beautifully pink Elle Woods (Megan Sadler), a sorority girl from California, who finds her life turned upside down when she gets her heart broken by her boyfriend, Warner (Harry Thornton). Armed with her pink high heels and dog, Bruiser (Princess), Elle follows Warner to Harvard Law School in an effort to prove that she is very serious. Her journey is one filled with struggles, fitting in being the biggest yet she spectacularly defies expectations and manages to stay true to her bubbly personality.

We meet a host of brilliant characters along the way and special mention has to be made of vocals by Megan Sadler, Lindsey Greasley, Ryan Wiggins, William Evans and “the chorus” Mia Mitchell, Hope Redfern and Lauren Owen. Thomas Davies, Luke Preston-Davies and Bailey West provided quite a few laughs from the audience too. The talent found in this production is mind blowing, some of the cast are destined to go very far!

Following on from their critically acclaimed production of West Side Story last September, the double award-winning Derby Youth Musical Theatre return to the Derby Theatre stage to entertain and excite. Performed by a cast of 40 young performers aged between 13 and 25 from the Derby and Nottingham area, this production is definitely one not to be missed! Choreography by Daisy Twells was spectacular and well thought out with a few numbers including many of the cast.

Music and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, book by Heather Hach and based on the Novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Motion Picture. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).
