Father’s Day can be a really difficult occasion to buy for, how do you treat the man that has everything or replies with “anything is fine” when asked? An online learning course is a perfect gift for the more challenging recipient and with a huge range to choose from you can be sure of finding something to suit.  Whether you are looking for something relating to an existing hobby or trying to spark interest into a new one Learning with Experts provide artistic and creative courses such as photography and jewellery making in an online setting. There are 8 categories of course, Gardening, Food & Drink, Jewellery, Photography, Floristry, Art & Design, Antiques & Wellbeing each with one or more courses in each category, so there are plenty to choose from.

You can start the courses at anytime with an online classroom showing who is active on the course at the time, you don’t need to all be online together, you can fit round your own lifestyle. The courses are structured with lessons via video to watch and learn from, followed by an assignment to complete and upload.

When I recently had the amazing opportunity to review a Learning with Experts course, I chose Designing Small Gardens from the choice of several garden courses. Due to a recent extension I’m left with a mud patch by the builders and desperately needed some inspiration and assistance. The first stage is designing and uploading a mood board for your garden of any elements you wish to include. I found the training video, you can download the notes if you prefer, to be excellent and gave lots of helpful advice. Especially the section about picking lots of photographs and then refining them to just a few, less is more for impact.

After you have completed the assignment you upload to the site, this is very simple to do, and depending on which style of course you pick, you can be critiqued by either your other classmates or the course tutor. There is a large difference in price between the two options, £35 or £165, for my course for instance, so it all depends on your level or interest and budget which one you go for as all the lessons and assignments seem to be the same for both options. There are six modules on my course, leading you through the design process from site survey to the last stage, plants and planting, which I think is excellent value for money at £35. All the lesson notes can be downloaded so you can refer back to them after watching the videos if needs be.

One of the best things about the Learning with Experts courses is that is doesn’t matter whether you are working full time or retired you can fit the lessons round you. You can view a lesson one day then follow up with the assignment in your own time, no pressure. This really suits me as I don’t often have big blocks of spare time, but it also makes the perfect low pressure gift.

I am still working my way through my lessons, as doing the site survey using all the great methods in the lesson is time consuming but very enjoyable. I’m hoping to do my draft garden drawing very soon and put the design into practice for the summer. I have learnt a lot so far and with plenty of modules left, I will be sure to learn lots more.
The Learning with Experts courses are excellent value for money and I highly recommend them. I’m really excited to get to the end of the course and see my design turn into reality. So if you have someone creative in your family, your friend loves cooking or your Dad loves photography take a look at the selection of courses on the website, you are sure to find something suitable.
