Kinky Boots is a fun and inspirational story about a young man Charlie who inherits his dads struggling shoe factory. Price and Son’s has been in the family for generations and Charlie has grown up with the workforce, so is determined to try and save the business. After meeting Lola – a fabulously flamboyant drag queen, Charlie turns the fate of the factory around. Together they decide to fill a gap in the market for quality reinforced high heeled boots to accommodate men’s feet. With Lola’s passion for boots and glamorous designs, and Charlie’s knowledge of the shoe industry it’s a partnership made in boot heaven! However, it wouldn’t be a heart-warming story without a few ups and downs and fall outs along the way.

With just the right amount of glitz, glamour and sparkle this production really is a feel-good show. I was smiling all the way through. The costumes where sensational, and the drag queens magnificent. Kayi Ushe was fantastic as the loud, brash and confident Lola and Joel Harper-Jackson equally as good as the much quieter sensible Charlie. Together they made the unusual but lovable duo work so well. The cast and particularly the drag queen ensemble were also fabulous, and great fun to watch.

The Playhouse is a large theatre with a variety of bars, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Located in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre it is easily accessible by public transport with some parking close by. And has a wide range of bars and restaurants surrounding it for pre-and post-theatre drinks and food.

I had a such a fun evening watching this heart-warming, inspirational story being brought to life. I would definitely recommend the show to family and friends giving it a sparking five stars out of five.
