A few months ago I moved into a new house and have not long finished having new carpets laid in the bedrooms and vinyl flooring in the hallway, living room and kitchen. I got the vinyl flooring as it is much easier to keep clean, especially with 5-year-old twin boys in the house; all it takes is a quick sweep with a brush and then mopping! At least, that’s what I thought until I tried the Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner.
The Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner is a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a mop which vacuums up light debris while washing the floors at the same time, saving you having to do 2 jobs. It features a 2-tank system (one for clean water and one for the dirt water and debris collection), 2 removeable rollers and a storage base.
Once arrived and unboxed it needed some very simple assembly; insert handle in unit and attach rollers.
Using is very simple if you don’t stick with the instruction manual, the instructions are just not very clear. I found it much simpler to watch a “how to use” video on YouTube. Basically, once assembled, you add a cap full of detergent to the fresh water tank and fill with water. Then stand the cleaner in the supplied stand and add 50ml of water into the stand. Switch on the cleaner for a few seconds while in the stand to moisten the rollers and then you are ready to go.
The cleaner is quite light at 5kg, and when switched on the movement of the forward rollers move it effortlessly across the floor (if you didn’t need to hold it upright it would go across the floor by itself).
So, is the Karcher FC5 any good? It is absolutely brilliant. I sweep and mop the floors all the time so assumed the floors were clean (even before trying the FC5), but the amount of dirty water that was in the tank after doing the floors was disturbing. The Karcher sucks up any light debris that may be on the floor while “mopping” it at the same time. As it mops the floor it is also sucking up any excess water so the floors are dry in minutes. The body of the cleaner moves so you can easily get around corners and manoeuvre it very easily and get under chairs and furniture. It has edge to edge cleaning so you can get right up against the skirting boards.
The rollers can be removed after use and cleaned in the washing machine and the dirty water tank is easily removed for emptying.
The Karcher FC Hard Floor Cleaner is a powerful hard floor cleaner and the results are excellent. While I initially thought the price tag of £249.99 was on the pricey side, after using it I can definitely say it is worth the money and gives excellent cleaning results which a sweeping brush and a mop & bucket just can’t compete with.
