When I was offered the chance of doing this review I jumped at it. With my husband being a racing fan and myself being an avid MCFLY fan, it was the perfect opportunity for a date night!

We chose to travel by train but if you are driving there is plenty of parking available. The train station is a 10-minute walk but is a pleasant and straightforward route. The racecourse is clearly signposted from the station which helped. I loved the fact that you walk across the racecourse itself from the station route and that there are boards to walk along so you don’t sink into the grass or damage the course! I was also pleasantly surprised to see that Sandown not only has a racecourse, but it also has a golf course, and a go kart track! Never seen that before!

If you are coming from the train station, you arrive at the grandstand entrance, which sent me into a bit of a panic as I was instructed to collect my tickets from the main entrance which was the other side of the building! Eek! However, when I spoke to the staff on the gate, I was greeted with a smile and told not to worry as they could access the system from there and print off my tickets! It was quick, easy and painless.

When we entered the venue, it felt so spacious, clean and welcoming. That feeling continued throughout the day!

As we had arrived early, it gave us the opportunity to have a good look round and I have to say it was immaculate. You can tell that Sandown really take pride in what they have to offer, and I have to make a special mention of the toilets! Oh my goodness! When I saw portaloos I, like many of you, cringed at the thought however, Sandown take a bow! These toilets were luxurious! fresh, clean and I didn’t have to hold my nose! The toilets even flush properly! And they remained that way all throughout the day.

There was food vendors located outside the building itself and such a fantastic range of options and catered for all dietary requirements! The food prices were competitive for the market and ranged between £12-£14 which for venue pricing I found reasonable.

I do feel that the pricing of the drinks vendors inside the building may need a little work – I ordered a can of lemonade and was shocked at the price of £3.40! I did like how it came with a fully recyclable cup though!

I was also happy to see free water being handed out throughout the day which I found came in handy later on at the concert itself!

I noticed when we went back outside that there were people already positioning themselves by the stage, so I decided to do the same. (You don’t have to do this but being a MCFLY fan I decided I wanted to be near the front) There were big screens either side of the stage for us to watch the racing from and we took it in turns to go and place a cheeky bet from the vendors who were located nearby.

The atmosphere was buzzing, and it was extremely family friendly, all excited for the concert and I will definitely bring my children next time.

The second to last race was when the atmosphere really stepped up a gear and people started gathering in preparation for the concert. People were so friendly and chatty and excited to see the boys!

I was located right at the front, and I was worried about being crushed, however that never happened and there was so much room to dance along, and the view was incredible! One word for the concert itself A-MAZE-ING! The boys were incredible, and the atmosphere was electric! Didn’t even bother anyone when it started to rain! I loved seeing MCFLYs kids on the side of the stage rocking out with their dads too – That’s next level multitasking parenting right there!

All in all, it was a great evening, and I would highly recommend this venue. This was my first visit to Sandown Park but most definitely won’t be my last.
