I attended the Lyceum Theatre with my mother in law on Tuesday 22nd March to see Into the Hoods: Remixed.
We really weren’t sure what to expect and I was very curious about the “Remixed” part of the title. As we were sat down waiting for the show to start, I had a look at the program. This is when I realised that the show was performed by a dance company called ZooNation. The program tells you a little bit about the story but also about the Creative, the Choreographers, the Cast and ZooNation itself.
The stage curtains had all the fairy tales booked as well as Into the Hoods. As the show started, all the books disappeared to leave the one about the show.
This is the story about 2 children who decide to leave their home “in search of freedom but found themselves lost… into the hood.” Those 2 children end up in Ruff Endz Estate where we get to meet its inhabitant: the Landlord, Spinderella, Rap-on-Zel, Prince, Lil Red, Wolf, Jaxx and The Giant. Of course, the story would not be complete without Fairy Gee, the Ugly Stepmum and Ugly Sisters as well as Grandmother. As each character is introduced, we get to watch some amazing dancing from each lead as well as the ensemble. We could tell they were giving it their hearts and souls. I loved the facial expressions in particular as they really enhanced the story telling. The music was current as well as some old favourite.
As the story unfolds, the characters are caught in a love triangle, forbidden love, bullying, theft… Will they be a happy ending? You will need to go and see it to find out.
I loved the show. If you want to be entertained and see something different at the theatre, this is the one to go and watch!
The show starts at 7.45pm and lasts for 2h15m including the interval.
The Lyceum theatre is situated on Tudor Square in the heart of Sheffield City Centre next to the word famous Crucible Theatre. It is a grade II listed building which was built in 1897.It was recently refurbished to its former glory and offers easy access for all. It has plenty of toilets, disabled toilets and changing facilities.
There are a couple of local car parks nearby: the Q Park on Charles Street where you can get 1 hour free by claiming a voucher from the box office and the NCP on Arundel Gate. The Q Park is slightly further away but the discount makes it worth wile. There is a lot of bars and restaurant in the vicinity for a pre-drinks or pre-meal show.
Zoonation’s Into The Hoods: Remixed is currently on tour around the UK until 9 April 2016. For more information and tour dates visit www.zoonation.co.uk.
