If You Were Me and Lived in… Peru by Carole P. Roman Review

Reviewed by Tracey Flintham
The If You Were Me and Lived in… is an educative book series about other cultures and this particular title is about Peru and its inhabitants. The “If You Were Me and Lived in…” series is now in double figures.
The books are written in fairly easy language and explain a little about the basics of the country, its people and culture. The book follows a logical sequence of explaining to children the basic facts about Peru and also helps with phonetic pronunciation of many of the words and phrases encountered.
The amount of information on each page is very varied with some only having a sentence whilst others are a complete page of text. The latter can be off-putting for younger readers who do not yet have the confidence to tackle this amount of text. The information offered on Peru is very basic and would only be suitable for very young readers or for helping with KS1 work. For any type of educational work the internet offers far more complete and interesting information for young scholars*.
The actual book itself is a paperback edition with very basic illustrations which do not make the book very appealing to the eye and unfortunately I do not think that it will gain much reading at our house and I don’t think I would purchase any of the other books within this series.

*Editors note: while the internet can offer a vast array of information this series is an introduction into different world cultures, whetting the minds of your children without overloading them with too much information.
