Scott Voss (Kevin James) is a 42 year old bored high school biology teacher who is constantly late for school which is always getting him into trouble with the headmaster.

When the failing school is running out of money they have to make cutbacks such as freezing pay and cutting afterschool activities such as the music class. This sees Marty (Henry Winkler), the music teacher, losing his job so Scott decides to try and raise the money to keep the class, he needs to raise $48,000 by the end of the school year to the music class and Marty’s job.

Scott takes on an extra job as an instructor at a citizenship class when one of his students asks him for extra tuition. When he arrives at his flat they are watching UFC and discovers that the loser of the fight receives $10,000 and decides that as a former college wrestler he could complete in mixes martial arts and lose the fight. Easy.

Life is good and he even gets a date with the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) who has until this point refused all advances.

The S10,000 he would receive for losing the fight would make him enough money to save the music class but on the night of the fight he discovers that a teacher in the school has been embezzling and all the money he has raised so far has gone. He now has to do the impossible and with the fight for a prize of $50,000.

Overall, a very enjoyable film and funny film. A heart-warming and inspirational story of a man’s fight to save a job, his school and his students and in the meantime rekindle his passion for teaching. Kevin James is plausible as a fighter passed his prime and does a excellent job with lots of laughs along the way.
