I was very excited this morning when I found out that the parcel was for myself. On opening the box I found a pair of Grubs Bowline boots in a beautiful violet colour, ready for me to review. I have a very jealous husband!
My first impression was how nice they looked, stylish and a gorgeous colour. They would rival more expensive brands on looks alone.
The boots fit perfectly, so I would say a true fit across their whole range. I like the fact that they are like ankle boots and not the full length boots I normally purchase. As soon as I put the boots on it was like my feet were being hugged. They are super comfortable, which for myself is extremely important, normally I have to rely on gel insoles for comfort in conventional wellington boots.
I live between two woodlands which normally means muddy dog/children walks, so a good comfortable pair of boots is Important. The Grubs Bowline boots are certainly that I would even say they are fantastic, and I never thought I would say that about a pair of rubber boots! They are stylish, waterproof (essential in a pair of rubber boots) they have a great grip, they are warm, comfortable and easy to clean.
A lot of technology has gone into the Bowline boots to ensure their wearability and longevity.
This science bit has been taken from their website.
They have 4 mm of insu-foam, 5 mm poly footbed, (1 million microscopic nitrogen bubbles to insulate the foot from cold surfaces.) They have been made 30% lighter than other brands of rubber boots due to their superlite technology. The boots also have a special super-dry lining that takes water away from your feet. Also they are rot and damp proof, so no more smelly damp boots around the house. They have a comfort rating of a very chilly -20c to a toasty 20c a boot for all weathers.
All that technology makes for a really comfortable pair of boots and my feet thank you. I have boots at home that cost more and are not as comfortable as the Bowlines. The Grubs Bowline boots are a brand and boot to be noticed and recommended to friends.
The inner sole and the insulated inner creates a really comfortable boot to wear, with them being 30% lighter than other rubber boots my feet did not ache after a wander, like in normal conventional wellington boots. Normally I am in two pairs of thick socks, but no need to in the Bowlines they kept my feet lovely and toasty. I like the fact that they are rot and damp proof, we have thrown many a boot away through rot and that horrible damp smell. I do not mind the price, they are retailing at £79.99, I think that is a really good price for the quality, especially when you compare them to certain high-end brands, I would personally choose the Bowline every time.
As rubber is a natural product they do recommend that you look after your boots by keeping them clean and oiling them with a natural oil or they do sell on their website a rubber conditioner. By oiling your boots it will stop them cracking as they dry out and will maintain their quality and longevity of your boots.
I also like the fact that the same family has owned the company since 1776, in 249 years of making boots they must be doing something right. They offer free delivery over £50.00, and 2-3 business day delivery.
I would recommend the Grubs Bowline boots to anyone who enjoys the outdoors, be it pottering around the garden or walking in the wild, they are comfortable, warm, hard wearing, great grip and are stylish. I can think of several people who would love a pair of bowline boots, they would make a lovely birthday, Christmas, anniversary gift to anyone whom loves the outdoors.
I give the Bowlines 5/5 they are a fantastic pair of boots and I am really happy I got to review them.
