Grease the musical at the Liverpool Empire Review
Reviewed by Linzie Wardle
The Liverpool Empire Is a traditional theatre opened in 1925 with a circular auditorium, decorative decor both around the stage and on the walls and ceiling. The theatre is situated next to Liverpool Lime Street train station, perfect for train travellers. However, being a car driver I found the theatre easy to find and with a major car park located across the road that was convenient.
Upon arrival to the theatre, we were greeted by gentleman at the press ticket stand who was friendly and handed us our tickets. A steward showed us which way we needed go to our seats.
Once seated the chairs where comfortable with plenty of leg room. We were positioned towards the rear but still had a great view of the stage.
Having always been a fan of Grease and watching films one and two it was of great pleasure to both myself and my mother to watch the Grease the musical live.
The main story is where Danny Zuko (Tom Parker) and Sandy Chason (Danielle Hope), fall in love when meeting at the beach in the Summer and by a twist of fate unexpectedly they reunite at Rydell High.
The songs throughout where led by a live orchestra, they were amazing and got the audience excited for an evening packed with a mind-blowing love story and the sounds and sights of 1970’s rock ‘n’ roll!! The acting, outfits, dancing and vocals of all performers where of a very high standard and no one failed to impress us.
There was a lot of thought and effort that went into the design of each set, which ranged from a Rydell High classroom, Marty’s bedroom, the garage including a ‘real’ car, to a burger diner, dance hall and drive-in movie.
This is a show not to be missed, thank you for giving myself and my mother the chance to watch Grease the musical.
