I decided to drive to London as I needed to do a few calls on the way home from my meeting the following day. I parked in the Drury Lane NCP Car Pak which is almost opposite the Travelodge so very convenient. The cost of parking would normally be £37.00 but the hotel offer a 50% off card making it £18.50 for up to 24 hours.

A short walk across the road brought me to the hotel entrance to which you have to climb 15 steps, which brings you to the entrance level and reception. The receptionist could not be more helpful and welcoming and allocated me room 63 which was a ground floor room on the same level as the bar and café. You could also elect for an automated check in if you preferred.

The room was fairly basic and not very large but spotlessly clean. In the room was a flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There was also WIFI for those who need it but there was a charge if you used the room wifi. You could access free wife in the bar area. The lighting in the room was also very good if you wanted to read or prefer for a meeting etc… There was a small desk to write up notes and 2 not very comfortable chairs. There were power points in the room for charging your mobile and tablet.

There was a very pleasant bar area with café and a good choice of menu served in the café. You could choose from a selection of burgers as well as classics such as fish and chips and sausage and mash. As I had arrived at 9.30pm and already eaten I decided to use the bar area to use the free wife and write up some notes on my iPad for my meeting the following morning. The bar was busy with people on their tablets and laptops taking advantage of the free wifi.

Although a ground floor room it was fairly quiet as it was situated close to a quiet road. However there was what sounded like dustbin emptying in the early hours which led to a disturbed night’s sleep. The bed was comfortable but the room was quite warm so had to leave the window open overnight.

Following a very comfortable if slightly disturbed night’s sleep I enjoyed a very good breakfast in the restaurant although some of the boxes of cereal were past their use by dates. I would say there was a mixture of tourists and business people. I am not sure about wheelchair access due to the steps up to reception but the sister hotel in Holborn is suitable for disabled. There is also nowhere in the hotel to leave luggage once you have checked out so have to carry it with you.

There may be more luxurious hotels in the area some probably not that much more expensive but for an overnight stay it is ideal. The real beauty is its situation being close to Covent Garden and was ideal for my business meeting in Great Queen Street which was just 5 minutes’ walk away. I arrived refreshed and relaxed and not having had the hassle of a crowded train journey or congested drive. I also arrived in good time for the start of the meeting which was at 9.15am. The hotel does serve breakfast from 7am and does offer an early starters pack. There are also a number of cafes in the area which do breakfast.

London-Covent-Garden-ExternalAccess to public transport is ideal. Covent Garden Tube Station however is closed for the next 18 months but you are only a short walk from Holborn Station and Charing Cross. There is also an excellent bus service to take you further afield. However if driving be aware of the congestion charge if driving during the day.

To sum up I would give the Travelodge in Covent Garden a score of 4 out of 5 and would certainly use it again should I have a morning meeting in Central London.
