Fiskars Scissors Review

Reviewed by David Savage
I recently received some bright orange handled scissors from Fiskars for review. On opening the packet it consisted of 3 pairs of scissors: Kitchen Scissors, Needlework Scissors and Paper Scissors from their Functional Form Range.
The first thing I noticed (apart from the colour of the handles) was the packaging, very minimal but enough to protect the scissors but very easy to opening – I didn’t need scissors to open the packets like a lot of other products.
Needlework Scissors
These are small scissors (13cm long) and lightweight (21g) with narrow, sharp tips for precision needlework. The feel quite comfortable in your hand and around your thumb and finger. Not having any needlework to do I used them to cut some thread and small pieces of fabric and they cut without snagging, in a straight line and didn’t leave jagged edges (on the fabric).
Paper Scissors
These again are lightweight scissors (45g) that have a reasonably long blade and measure about 17cm long. They are quite sharp and cut through paper and thin card very smoothly. Again these felt quite comfortable to use.
Kitchen Scissors
These were the heaviest of the 3 I tried but at only 73g are still light and easy to use. They are about 18cm long and I found them great for cutting meat while preparing dinner (as well as opening the packets). As they have a serrated blade whatever you are cutting has very little movement. They also have an adjustable screw so you can adjust the tension on the blades to your requirements.
Overall, all with comfortable to use with ergonomically handles and were excellent at the different jobs that they were designed to do. I had never given much thought to scissors before, scissors are scissors, but using the correct scissors for the job you are doing makes it much easier. They are all made of Stainless Steel and are dishwasher safe. The bright orange handle stands out so makes the easy to find in a drawer.
