My son, husband and I visited Fired 4 U pottery painting studio in Walton-Le-Dale, Preston earlier today. The venue was easy to find with lots of parking nearby. We were lucky and managed to park right outside the shop.
Upon arrival, the venue was very busy due to a children’s party. However, despite this, we were welcomed in and our table was ready for us very quickly. The party left soon after we arrived but I observed that they had been allowed to bring in food from McDonalds and the chip shop next door to complete their party.
A lovely young girl, who was working alongside the owner, showed us the items that we could choose to paint and gave us plenty of time to do so. I was astounded at the amount of choice! I chose to paint a cup and my son chose a Santa plate (my husband was helping our son). The other choices included a large Christmas tree (complete with lights), tree decorations, bowls, plain plates, moneyboxes, tea pots, vases, dog bowls… the list literally is endless!
The young lady explained to us how the process works, which is very simple to understand; my 9 year old son understood perfectly. There were lots of colours to choose from for the base colour, which were within easy reach of our table. We were supplied with water, different sized brushes and an explanation of how to use the paints correctly. When the base coat was completed, there were hundreds of choices which allowed our imagination to run wild! There are stencils, stamps and paint specifically for writing. To help us to decide on our design, there were lots of items on the wall which helped. We also used glitter paints to complete our designs! The owner offered me advice on how to paint my design in a more effective method and made conversation with us as we painted.
The venue offers both hot and cold drinks, cupcakes and snacks for a small fee. There is a toilet which we observed to be clean.
In conclusion, we had a fantastic time! We have never done pottery painting before because I did wonder whether my son would understand and be able to do it properly. However, our experience shows that the process is easy, fun and allowed us to be very inventive together! There are only two points that I would like to highlight; we did not get offered an apron for my son and only spotted them mid-way through our session. Secondly, we have to return in 7 days to collect our designs, once they have been dried and glazed. However, this does not detract from the fun we had!
