Fame the Musical at the Theatre Royal Brighton Review

5-10 November 2018

The Theatre Royal in Brighton is probably one of my favourite theatres to visit. I love how traditional it is, the ambience, the decor. Even with its traditional appearance it fits in really well in the unique and Diverse Brighton. It really puts you in the right mood for whatever show you are going to see. The staff are always very polite, friendly, extremely well presented and on hand to help with any query that you may have. A bonus is that it’s minutes walk from car parks and local transport.

The very successful Fame franchise started with the Alan Parker film in 1980. It also had a television series and television spin off. It follows the fortunes and misfortunes of a group of dance, music and drama students. Starting with their auditions through to those graduations.

The stage production of this phenomenally successful show got off to a bit of a rocky start sadly due to technical difficulties meaning the start was delayed. However, to their credit the cast came on with confidence and determination and were not flustered by the delay in the slightest. From the start it was very busy with the introduction of all of the different relationships and their life challenges. It didn’t lose its gusto and it was delivered with confidence and high-octane energy throughout.

Some standout performances for me were; Keith Jack as Nick with his incredible vocal talent and range and Stephanie Rojas who played the ambitious but troubled Carmen. Stephanie is the whole package with great vocals, she is an incredible dancer with amazing stage presence.

To be fair to the whole cast, the whole production was very professional and cleverly put together. The cast were extremely talented who worked well and complimented each other beautifully.

A fast-paced production full of talent, amazing choreography, great music, high energy and lots of fun.
