Fame has landed in Manchester for the first leg of its nationwide tour and I was lucky enough to attend the opening night.

The story of Fame sees a group of performing art students on their quest for fame and success at the New York High School of Performing Arts.

Based upon the 1980s hit film and the TV series, the musical opens with a roar of excitement from the eager audience awaiting the phenomenal show.

The show follows the journey of dancers, musicians and actors through their performing arts courses, the highs and lows of high school including romances, drug use, learning difficulties, sexuality and perseverance.

With an outstanding cast with names such as Jorgie Porter (Iris), Jamal Kane Crawford (Tyrone), Molly McGuire (Serena), Hayley Johnson (Mabel), Stephanie Rojas (Carmen) and Mica Paris (Miss Sherman), the whole cast truly shine throughout.

The set is simple yet effective in delivering what it needs to. A quick turn of a school locker changes the scene to be a chalkboard in the classroom or a ballet beam for the dance studio. The lighting was also used well to utilise the stage work effectively.

My husband and I were blown away by the spectacular cast and their abundance of talents. Not only were they all fantastic dancers but they were incredible actors and singers too.

The ending was just amazing! The cast came out and sang the unforgettable theme tune ‘Fame, I’m gonna live forever’. With the mind-blowing vocals from Stephanie Rojas (Carmen) and Mica Paris (Miss Sherman). The whole audience was on their feet dancing and clapping to the beat. The atmosphere was great!

We were enthralled throughout this show stopping performance and would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to be entertained thoroughly.

Rating: 5/5
