A busy Glasgow office block is emptying out for the day as we’re being locked in the basement. Five willing, if slightly nervous, conscripts waiting to tackle one of the city’s more unusual but increasingly popular attractions.
Escape Glasgow is the “first live escape game” to ever grace these parts. It’s a collection of different-themed rooms kitted out with puzzles, riddles and brain teasers which must be solved within 60 minutes to get you back out from behind the locked door.
Trust us when we say it’s a lot more fun than it sounds. However sceptical you start out, you’ll soon be throwing yourself into the challenge, which in our case was to save the world from a deadly virus. Mission accomplished in just over 50 minutes, since you ask. There were a couple of sweaty moments, but it’s amazing what five brains can come up with when the future of humanity depends on it.
We’ll not go into too much detail so as not to give the game away, but the challenges are sufficiently varied that every member of the team will find a way to contribute. Our group was a mix of old and new friends, and you could see how well the concept would transfer to work nights out or Stag and Hen groups. Maybe just leave the serious socialising until afterwards, because you’ll need all your mental faculties to track down that precious key.
The staff are brilliant, Kim in particular was extremely enthusiastic and helpful, and they keep a watchful eye from outside so that they can offer up a gentle hint if you go too far off beam. They never did say what happens if you don’t have all the answers within an hour, but they’re keen on repeat business so draw your own conclusions. We will definitely be back.
Escape Glasgow has 3 different game rooms for groups of 2-5 people per room.
Tickets cost £48 for 2 people or £66 for a group of 5.
