Due to recent worldwide events, many of us have found ourselves working from home, primarily online. However, it’s not only work that’s changed; communicating with friends and family over the Internet has now become an everyday activity.

While the quality of a video link can be improved by installing a better webcam, the audio quality of calls can be let down by the basic microphone and speaker combination provided with a laptop or tablet. So when I was fortunate to try them, I immediately discovered that the EPOS Sennheiser Adapt 260 headset improves things enormously.

These black minimalistic on-ear headphones are lightweight (121g), and the soft leatherette ear pads feel very comfortable. I can’t imagine them becoming uncomfortable even if worn for long periods of time. The microphone arm stows very neatly under the headband, so it’s never intrusive when not in use.

The Adapt 260 were easy to use and, if you’ve previously used a Bluetooth audio device, very intuitive to set up.

They arrived partially charged, but they can be fully charged in 2 hours if required.

Initially, I paired them with my mobile phone (Android) to listen to some music (streamed). The stereo sound was exceptional. The quality easily outperformed the pair of noise-cancelling headphones I presently use, which was surprising as the Adapt 260 are not noise-cancelling. However, it must be stressed, I was not using them in an overly noisy environment. All of the functions (pause, skip a track, rewind track etc.) worked perfectly, although fast forward and rewind took a bit of practice to achieve. I also tried them with my iPad-Air, again with no problems whatsoever.

Next, I connected the headset to my computer (a Lenovo running Windows 10). Yet again, it couldn’t have been simpler. The provided Bluetooth dongle sits in a spare USB connector, and from there on, everything really was plug and play.

The small noise-cancelling microphone on a boom arm provides clear audio with very little background noise. I often need to record small audio pieces for various projects; even when using the basic audio recorder supplied with Windows, the recording was crisp and vibrant.

A feature that I will find very useful is that the headphones can be paired with two Bluetooth devices. So, for example, while taking part in an online conference, I can take or make a call from my mobile device simultaneously.

If you use Microsoft Teams as your communication platform of choice, the headphones come into their own. The hook button is also a dedicated Teams button allowing the user to jump straight into Teams meetings.

I used the headset during one of my regular ZOOM conferences. The results were excellent. Everyone complimented the clarity of my new head-wear (not a single mention was made regarding what they looked like, so they were obviously very discrete).

The specification states a generous 27 hours battery life from a full charge. However, it should be noted that it isn’t possible to manually connect the headset to any device (i.e. no jack socket), so keep an eye on the battery level (which is indicated by different led colours), and if possible, keep them fully charged, you wouldn’t want them to die halfway through a meeting. This, for me, is only a very minor inconvenience.

When not in use, the headset folds flat and can be neatly stored in the provided pouch.

Although this product seems to be aimed at a business market, the price is still competitive for general domestic use.

I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing this item; in fact, forget work calls and conferences; I would quite happily listen to music and audio-books through them all day long.

The EPOS Sennheiser Adapt 260 would make a generous but ideal Christmas gift for any tech or gadget-loving friend or relative.
