As I never come across El Rayo Tequila before, I was intrigued to find out more.
BRIEF EXERT – Adapted from El Rayo Tequila’s Website
It all started with a 20+ year friendship with Tom and Jack. They got a taste for tequila one night and made the decision to quite their day job in the United Kingdom and headed off to Guadalajara. They discovered modern Mexico, searched for the best slow grown, blue agave plant and worked with some of the best producers, in particular Oscar Garcia.

So, onto the El Rayo Tequila Gift Box.
Firstly, the gift box is gorgeous. I love teal and duck egg blue so this was a personal favourite when it came to the mens colour choice. The gift box is wrong and story and well presented.
CONTENTS
1 x 5 cl No. El Rayo Tequila Plata
1 x 5 cl No. El Rayo Tequila Reposado
4 x 150ml London Essence Original Indian Tonic Water
What I also like about this tonic water is the fact that it does not contain Aspartame. Something worth noting and that is the fact that the tonic water had a expiration date of 30/04/22 (I received this on 15/12/21) so not long but…. in our house, any tipple or mixer does not last long. LOL!!!
I mean, G&T yes, but T&T…. Who would have thought of that combination, We are used to the good old tequila slammer are we not! Shot glass, lack the back of your hand, sprinkle the salt and a wedge of lemon.
So, I got my ice chilled glasses x 2, added some ice and got to work.
No. 1 – PLATA – HERBAL
When I read on the website that this was perfect for gin lovers, I was sceptical however, I was not disappointed. It took a while to get used to the taste and combination, after all, with so many different G&T’s, a T&T is somewhat different. I loved it and with their recommendation of garnishing the drink with a slice of grapefruit, I just had to try. Firstly, I tried without and then with. The grapefruit was a game changer and I absolutely love it.
Before mixing with the tonic and grapefruit, I also tasted it just with ice and it was lovely. My preference is with mixer and grapefruit though.
The agave taste is remarkable and there are no unpleasant tastes at the end. Just one continuous smooth and luxurious taste, worth sipping to make it last even longer. No unexpected burning at the back of your throat either.
INGREDIENTS WORTH NOTING THE TASTE
Citrus
Pepper
These really did come out. The pepper had a spiciness to it and the citrus was divine, not sharp or bitter,
No. 2 – REPOSADO – AROMATIC
Now, when I read that this was perfect for whiskey lovers, I was not sure what to expect. I am not a lover of whisky but this is a whole different ball game. I know many whiskey drinkers and they frown upon mixing whisky with anything but this is not whisky, it is tequila and boy did I love this!
Unlike the Plata which is a clear tequila, the Reposed has a very tiny hint of colour to it but very tiny. On its own, you do not notice it but can against the other one,
As with the Plata, they recommend mixing with tonic and a slice of grapefruit. Again, pleasantly surprised how well this worked. My hubby (a whisky drinker) also tried it and commented how delightful it was.
INGREDIENTS WORTH NOTING THE TASTE
Almond
Burnt orange
Cinnamon
INGREDIENTS FOR BOTH TEQUILAS
Just water and blue agave

I would most definitely recommend buying this and a bargain price to get your taste buds going for the bigger bottles too.
