If December is the month of excess, then January is the month to take care of your body. Diet and fitness play a big part of a lot of the population’s New Year resolutions, and of course, that means eating healthily too.

It is a well versed fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and with a filling meal first thing you are less likely to turn to those dreaded sugary snacks for a mid morning boost. On that basis I was really pleased to be sent a selection of high fibre, low sugar breakfast cereals to try from ELEAT. ELEAT are a young UK based healthy food brand founded in 2022 by Hywel Rose and Hugh Hamilton-Green. ELEAT cereals are very high in protein, so with protein claiming to keep you feeling fuller, longer will the cereal keep me from reaching for the biscuits at 10am?
My package from ELEAT contained four different cereal varieties to try, Vanilla Thriller, Cinammon Sensation, and Strawberry Blitz, all in 50g single serving packs, together with a large 250g multi serving pack of Chocolate Triumph. The packaging screams good quality and has loads of useful information including the nutritional information based on a single serving. With around 13g of protein per 50g, I was surprised to find that one small serving had twice the protein of a boiled egg. The cereal is very high fibre too with at least double the fibre of other well-known brands, (without milk).

ELEAT’s cereal is suitable for almost everyone as its gluten free, low sugar, plant based & vegan friendly, it is however packaged in a facility that also handles nuts if that is a big concern to you. Once opened the different cereals are all the same shape, small spherical balls, but in different colours depending on the variety, eg red for strawberry, brown for chocolate. As noted on the pack, they can be eaten as a quick snack and with a lovely crunchy texture they are just as good without milk. With milk however, they don’t go soggy, but stay hard and crunchy.

The packaging is completely recyclable and is made out of LDPE which can be recycled with supermarket plastic or other kerbside collection points. With regards to calories, they are around 190 calories per 50g so similar to a lot of supermarket branded cereals, but on trying a bowl I found not only do they definitely keep you fuller longer, they also fill you up as you eat, so a 30g serving worked for me and my 10 year old instead of the full 50g. Whilst I’d say that ELEAT cereal is aimed at adults, because of both the unsweetened taste and the premium cost, they would also work well if you have a child that’s into their sport, as mine is. He found they were not as sweet as his normal breakfast snack, with only 1.2g of sugar per serving, so that might put some off, but we got used to the taste over the days with the Chocolate Triumph flavour turning out to be our overall favourite.

The only thing that knocks point off this cereal for me is the cost. Sold in packs of four 250g multi serving bags at a cost of £28.00 (£23.80 for a 4 week subscription), or ten 50g single serving bags at a cost of £22.00 (£18.70 for a 4 week subscription), it pushes them into the price bracket of a specialist food for sports men/women and out of general everyday breakfast. I would recommend however if you were in training and need a boost or for a weight loss diet where you will feel much fuller for longer and be able to resist those naughty snacking urges!

Rating: Recommended 4 out of 5
