Double Dutch Premium Mixers. I was asked to review Double Dutch premium mixers, the exploration pack which contains ten bottles all containing a 200ml mixer.
We settled down to try these mixers along with some of our favourite gins. The ten bottles came packaged in a great box, which is colourful and sturdy. I wouldn’t hesitate to give these as a gift such is the niceness of the box, unlike no offence to those common brands, it’s not just a plain box which wouldn’t make a great gift. I had not realised that the Netherlands was the birthplace of gin. So double Dutch the brand is inspired by gin, what better inspiration:)
First up was double Dutch ginger beer, wow this packed a punch, it was fiery, much better than your average ginger beer, it added a completely different dimension to the gin. A massive thumbs up for this one. Cranberry and Ginger tonic water came next, the taste wasn’t overwhelming, but subtle, very nice addition to my gin, very easy to drink. The ginger ale was not as potent as the ginger beer, but would still be on a par with top end mixers that we favour. It was pleasant and still very drinkable. I absolutely love the cucumber and watermelon, even by smell, the flavours are very evident. Super refreshing, I will definitely be looking to buy this for summer gin cocktails. The taste is divine, straight away, I am like this is my favourite. I am not a drink connoisseur, just someone who loves to socialise and relax with a great tasting drink, this is definitely a firm favourite. I must add, that my husband is helping me out here, I am not drinking copious amounts of gin by myself! Although it wouldn’t be a chore if I am honest, such is the quality of these mixers. We have I might add gone with a plain gin, Bombay London Dry Gin, so we could experience the flavours of the mixers themselves.
Pink Grapefruit, wow what a smell, personally I love pink grapefruit. It’s very sweet smelling as a mixer however although it smells sweet, it’s actually quite refreshing, another firm favourite for the summer I think. It adds such a different element to the gin, I can still taste the gin, the mixer enhances the flavour. I really liked this one. Wowser is what springs to mind when you pour the margarita soda with chilli and cucumber. It does smell very potent. I think it’s an acquired taste, but my husband loved it. He felt the cucumber came through, plus the bite of the chilli, which changes the aspect of the drink. It was definitely a thumbs up. Moving onto the pomegranate and basil, I wasn’t quite sure, for me the basil was the stronger taste, I wouldn’t say it was a favourite. Certainly still brings something different to the gin though. It’s another mixer that’s fresh tasting and I would favour for the warmer months. The husband got the double lemon, first look, we thought it look very sharp and would taste tart like, however it’s actually more like the bitter lemon I remember from my teenage drinking years. A cloudy lemonade type mixer. The verdict was it was ok.
This left us with the skinny tonic water and Indian tonic water, both of which complemented the gin. Who doesn’t love a gin and tonic, this was as good as any others we have tasted. Overall, we thought these mixers were fantastic, we would look to buy, they can be used with gin, rum, tequila or whiskey. Although high end, they are most certainly worth it for the exquisite taste they bring to your drink.
