Hobby Journal by Jacqueline Wilson Review

Reviewed by Lucy Lowndes

As soon as I unwrapped the Jacqueline Wilson Hobby Journal I was captivated by the brightly coloured front cover. Bright Yellow with a large cupcake in the middle, surrounded by other smaller hobby inspired pictures, the front cover will definitely grab the attention of anybody browsing the bookstore shelves!

Inside however is the opposite, expecting there to be brightly coloured pictures throughout the book it is just white and lilac… not really very appealing for my 9 year old daughter.

The first page has space to write in the journal owners details eg: name, address, phone number, email, birthday. It then goes on explaining what Jacqueline Wilson’s hobbies are, followed by Nick Sharratt (the books illustrator), then a section for the journal owners hobbies.  The next 14 pages contain a story about hobbies featured in previous Jacqueline Wilson books and a few puzzles to do. The rest of the book is a diary for the journal owner to write in what hobbies they are doing on which days throughout the year. At the end of the book there is a section for photos to be displayed.

The RRP is £6.99 which for a hardback book/diary is good value. This is however more of a diary than a book so please bare that in mind when purchasing. More colour throughout the book would have been a lot more appealing to my daughter. However saying that I personally think this is a nice diary to record any enthusiastic dancers, bakers, swimmers lessons and exams in.
