A 100% barrel of laughs – from the start until the hilarious last scene”. Chrissy Rocks (Benidorm) leads the cast along with Leah Bell and Delores Porretta.
Performed in the beautiful Epstein Theatre, Liverpool, Dirty Dusting is a low cost entertaining wonder of a show. It’s a one-liner heaven and runs at an incredible pace. Set in South Shields, this show features three ordinary working class cleaners, Olive, Gladys and Elsie. All three are approaching their 70th birthday and under pressure from their new (spoilt brat) boss, Dave who has to make redundancies. All three are a target for their young boss (played by Lee Brannigan) who is keen to bring in some much younger models.
The trio of ladies, whilst cleaning the office one day, stumble across a chance phone call from a sex line with a similar phone number to their office. In fear of losing their jobs, the girls quickly devise a plan, in the hope to make their fortune.
The newspaper advert goes in, the phone begins to ring and their journey begins as the “Telephone Belles”. What more could you expect from three ladies with a total age approaching 210. Experience, filth and an open mind is what their punters wished for but instead the audience gets a hilarious account of something similar to when they probably had their last sexual encounter – 1974.
As the hours go by the girls get into full stride providing both entertainment to their telephone punters and an outstanding master class of comedy to the Epstein, which was rammed to the rafters.
I won’t spoil the final scenes as the play kicks up a gear and into a spontaneous rapture of laughter and applause from the audience.
Produced in 2003, this show has been to all parts of the UK including Liverpool in 2009 where it was a sell-out show. Take your mothers, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles but don’t miss this show, only on until 15th Oct at the Epstein Theatre, Liverpool.
Tickets cost £21 (booking fees may apply).
