Pre-show piece written by Deborah Banasko
I must have read “Dear Zoo” to my children hundreds of times, and it never fails to raise a smile. Anyone who has children will know what I’m talking about… it’s the classic lift the flap book from Rob Campbell that tells the tale of the different animals that the Zoo send to the author, as he desperately wants a pet. However, none of the animals are quite right and need to be sent back, until the very end…
This is the first time that this story has come to the stage, which is surprising as the book has sold over 8 million copies since first being published in 1982 and is coming to the Victoria Theatre in Halifax from Tuesday 6th March (1pm and 3.30pm) to Wednesday 7th March (11am and 2pm).
There is so much scope for humour, silly animal noises and impressions when I tell this story to my children, so I am very excited to see the show and how the book is brought to life.
It promises music, audience interaction and of course amazing puppets that will engage children (and adults I’m sure!), I’m expecting a very giggly toddler by the time the curtain goes down, and no doubt lots of excited chatter all the way home!
This is a childhood must-see for me.
