Mini Moose Land

I was really pleased to be given the opportunity to review the revamped Mini Moose Land at the Chill Factore in Manchester. I took my nearly 3 year old son and 8 month old baby, to be honest we had been on a visit to Mini Moose Land about 6 months ago and were pretty disappointed so I was a bit apprehensive about what it would be like.
Mini Moose Land is like an extreme soft play set on snow, it is located between the beginners slope and the main slope and is fenced in by netting. This revamp has really improved things within the area, on my previous visit there were just a couple of slides and sledges. The redesign includes huge plastic tunnels for the children to climb through, a snow maze – which was small enough for little children to run and play in but small enough parents could easily see them, a small slope with little sledges and tube donuts for sliding, an igloo, wooden cabin as well as slides and climbing frames.
I have to say my little boy absolutely loved it, the maze was a massive hit with him and another child chasing and hiding from each other as well as playing in the tunnels. The small slope with the sledges and tubes had a constant stream of children up and down it, it’s perfect for the under 4s its aimed at – the only one slight criticism is the slope runs straight into general play area and several children and adults got bumped (albeit at low speed) by those using the slope. The climbing frames and slides were good for the age group but my son did struggle a bit in his wellies trying to use them.
Warm clothing is needed to go into the area as its real snow and its pretty cold in the main snow area, however my son had on normal clothes, vest and full waterproofs and was plenty warm enough. For those who don’t have their own waterproofs or ski gear – it can all be hired from centre for an additional cost.
Following our play in Mini Moose Land we had lunch in the Alpine Café upstairs, the children had pizza and chips whilst we sampled some of the bigger pizzas. I have to say the food was great and the prices seemed very reasonable. I believe this is the area where you eat following ski lessons or during parties.
The area is suitable for children 4 and under, personally I think children would need to be quite confident on their feet to get the most out of the attraction, it is open 9am – 9.30pm and costs £5 at peak times and £6 off peak which is great value for money for this unique experience and the chance to have fun in the snow.
All the children that were lucky enough to attend the relaunch seemed to be having a great time and whilst previously I wouldn’t recommend Mini Moose Land to friends, I would now have no hesitation. In fact I have already started looking into having my son’s birthday party there.
Mini Moose Land is set within the Chill Factore complex which is Manchester’s indoor snow centre containing the UK’s longest indoor snow slope and its own Alpine Village. There are ski and snowboard lessons available for all ages and abilities and an snow park which includes Luge Slip ‘N’ Slide, Downhill Donuts and Sledge ‘O’ Mania, those who want to remain warmer can try the 12m climbing wall. For the non-adventurous there are plenty of shops and cafes to keep warm in.
We had a great time at this relaunch and I think we will almost certainly become frequent visitors to the centre now.
Prices: £5 (off peak) / £6 (peak)1 hour pass.
Mini Moose Land is suitable for children with a maximum age of 4 years (all children must be accompanied by an adult).
