Character Options Teletubbies Talking Po Soft Toy Review

Teletubbies is one of those TV programmes that appeals to generation after generation of young viewers. I still love watching it with my own two- and three-year-old grand-children. To be able to play along with their very own Teletubbies characters, whilst watching the show, must be a real treat for little ones. So, with upcoming birthdays in the summer, I was delighted to be able to take a closer look at these soft toys as potential birthday gifts.
There are a lot of soft character figures on the market, and I was really interested to see what Character Options Ltd had to offer that made their Po soft toy stand out from the rest.
Upon opening the packaging, the little figure of Po looked out at me from the bubble-wrap. I was immediately drawn to the bright red soft plush of her body and cheeky face. Her 25cm body is made from high quality plush material. Her likeness is very close to the character on the TV screen. On her head is the distinctive circle antenna and on her front is a grey rectangle – just like the tummy-screen from the show. Her face is made from what looks like good quality plastic and the join between plush body/head and plastic face is very strong. It looks like she can withstand lots of cuddles and squeezes. Po’s ears are adorable – I can imagine them being gently rubbed between thumb and forefinger – like a comforter – as a child has a nap.
Another benefit of the Teletubbies Talking Po is that, when her tummy is pressed, she says a range of iconic phrases from the show. From ‘again, again!’ to ‘eh-oh!’ and ‘big hug!’ – the authentic sounding voice delivers a wide, and random played, selection of phrases and giggles. I’m sure little people will love interacting with it.
One of the drawbacks (or features) of the toy is that the batteries are fully sewn into the body of the character. Whilst this might be frustrating, once the batteries have worn down, it’s also worth noting that this must be safer than having openable battery compartments. It’s also arguable that the sewn-in batteries also make for a softer, more cuddlable toy.
All in all, I thought this was a very well-constructed, authentic-looking character toy. It’s the perfect size for little hands and its soft, cuddlable body is just right for nap-time. The toy felt sturdy enough for imaginative play and offers good play value in the interactive sounds and phrases. And at a price that won’t break the bank, this is a lovely toy that can help bring Teletubbies show to life for little ones.
