I recently went to the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford to see the performance of Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet .

It started with 3 men coming onto the stage jumping and high kicking, they are then joined by 3 girls, and they all start dancing. A huge curtain then slides across the stage and you can see the silhouettes of the dancers through it, this was very impressive. Having never been to a ballet before I didn’t know quite what to expect as I thought ballet was all leotards and tutus and couldn’t quite understand it.

We then had a short interval when the second part came on it was a bit dark and scary with only a few lamps lit on the stage, some of the dancing was a bit seductive at times, and thought it was a good job it was dark and nobody could see my face which was red with embarrassment. At some parts the dancers stood very still like statues, which was also very impressive, then another short interval.

Then the third part came on, which I really enjoyed the best as they  played music as they danced, they didn’t do in the previous parts. I found it more entertaining with the music, they say contemporary ballet is meant to be a story without words but I found it very hard to follow the storyline, all the dancers were very energetic and expressive in their movements and dance, maybe contemporary ballet is not for me, but would recommend it if ballet is your thing.
