When my daughter was given a Buyagift voucher for a three course meal for two at a Zizzi restaurant with a glass of Prosecco each included I was really excited when she invited me to go with her. I immediately went online and found out where the nearest Zizzi restaurants were (there are 139 locations available). We had three nearby to us; Hitchin, St Albans and Milton Keynes. We chose Zizzi Hitchin as it was the closest.

My daughter then gave me the voucher and asked me to arrange the meal! Right! I could google and find out where the nearest restaurants were, but booking the meal using the Buyagift voucher was a completely different thing.

It found it very easy to get onto the Buyagift website, the instructions were very clear. I managed to put in the voucher reference number and pin code. I chose the venue and the date but could get no further. I rang up Zizzi Hitchin in a panic; I had been entrusted with the voucher and I had done it wrong!!

I needn’t have worried, the girl who answered the phone said she would book the table for me, it was no problem. She even explained that with the Buyagift voucher we would be eating from the Saluti menu. I think that is what it was called.

We found the Zizzi restaurant quite easily in a narrow street with other restaurants and hotels nearby. It looked quite pretty as darkness fell. We decided to sit near the large open window at the front of the restaurant as it was a warm evening. The Saluti menu had five starters, seven main courses and three desserts to choose from. I spotted tiramisu which is a favourite of mine.

I chose my starter of fonduta formaggio, but unfortunately it was sold out so I decided on arancini. My daughter chose bruschetta. For my main course I chose calzone carne piccante and asked for it not to be too spicy. My daughter chose the pasta dish.  We both decided not to have the Prosecco and to have cola and a jug of iced water as I was driving.

My arancini was three deep friend balls of something with peas in the middle. These were served with a pot of their tomato sauce. They were not hot or spicy and were really nice dipped in the tomato sauce. My daughter’s bruschetta had tiny whole plum tomatoes; she loved it.

My daughter said her pasta was really good, it had small pieces of bacon in it and she had been offered grated parmesan on top. My calzone was huge! It had large pieces of chicken and small meatballs in a tomato based sauce inside and grated parmesan on top. It was served with another pot of their tomato sauce. I really enjoyed it.

We both chose tiramisu for our dessert although we could have had ice-cream or a chocolate melt. It was a great choice!!!

The restaurant was simply decorated with the cooking area at the back and everything visible to the public. There was also a bar at the back of the smaller part of the restaurant.

The ladies toilets were up two steps but were very clean. The men’s toilets and the disabled toilet were on the level.

Zizzi with the Buyagift voucher was very good value, although it came with a fairly limited choice of menu we really enjoyed our meals. My daughter paid for our meals using the Buyagift voucher very easily.

The voucher for a Three Course Meal and a Glass of Prosecco for Two at Zizzi is currently £39 (was £56.30) on the Buyagift website.
