Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin) is broke and is Hollywood’s least successful director. After getting a script for Chubby Rain about an alien invasion he is told he can have a movie if he gets Hollywood’s biggest action star Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy) to star in it. He has no money and no contacts so how is he going to persuade the paranoid superstar to star in his ultra low-budget movie? He can’t, but begins to blag his way into making the movie with Kit as the star. without his knowledge.
With the help of borrowed equipment, an over-the-hill theatre diva (Christine Baranski), a young sexy Hollywood starlet who will sleep with anyone in power to get where she wants (Heather Graham), Kit’s nerdy dim brother Jiff (also played by Eddie Murphy) and a film crew of illegal immigrants he picks up at the border they begin to trick Kit into the starring role of Chubby Rain while at the same time increasing his paranoia.
Overall Bowfinger is an enjoyable comedy. Steve Martin is always funny and teamed up with the energetic Eddie Murphy in two roles it makes for an excellent story that is based on a real 1927 incident. The cast are all excellent with Eddie Murphy and Heather Graham shining through and there are enough jokes to keep you watching.
A funny and witty film with 2 great comedy actors.
