Guy Fawkes night is one of the highlights of the Autumn calendar and Bournemouth Fireworks offer not one, not two but three fireworks displays for the entry price. Being Bournemouth’s biggest fireworks party, plus entertainment from the region’s top professional fire performers, a Foo Fighters tribute band, I was very much looking forward to a great evening. There was so much on offer but unfortunately being delayed during the day, we weren’t able to experience it all. A giant funfair (with rides not included in the entry price), free have-a-go sports on the Littledown pitches and the free Indoor Family Zone with bouncy castles and the Revolution Cheerleading Academy. There was so much on offer that we could have done with a map.

We enjoyed the first 7pm set of fireworks whilst in the queue to get in. The display started with a big bang to show that everything was ready, followed by a mixture of extremely spectacular high and low fireworks.

Security was thorough, ensuring that no drinks and banned items etc were taken through into the venue. This did feel long, but moved quickly, but understood that to get the sheer amount of people through and keep them safe, it was necessary. The staff were polite and were able to give advice and directions.

There was plenty of entertainment whilst waiting for the firework displays, from fire dancers to a band who played two great sets.

The play park is open with security on the door so if your little ones need to run and let off steam they can do knowing there’s only one entrance. It also gives families another free activity to do. There were two musical sets by Fu Fighters before the 8pm and 9pm firework displays. They are a Foo Fighters tribute act and I thoroughly enjoyed dancing away to them, having secured a cheeky little spot by the stage, whilst my little boy was in the park with my wife.

There was plenty of choice regarding food, but they were understandably busy but it just felt like they were just simply in the wrong place, and the queues were long so we didn’t experience the street food. There was chicken, halloumi, burger, churros and everything you would expect from a festival. It would have been better to spread the food trucks around the main field so you could remain in the queue and still see the fireworks.

The 8pm display was epic, having grown in size from the 7pm display. I love the fact that the organisers had to let Bournemouth airport know that the fireworks were going to be so big! The fireworks had a great soundtrack to enjoy together. The 9pm fireworks were worth the wait, a great soundtrack, some absolutely huge fireworks and lots of them.

There was a great atmosphere in the field and we would definitely come again. It is a busy event, it’s advisable to travel by bus and I understand why. Littledown has limited parking and we parked further away and walked in which wasn’t bad. My little boy absolutely loved it and gave it 200 out of 5 so it was definitely a hit. I was told all the way home that we should go again next year and I think it may be an annual thing for us.

The tickets started from £10 for adults, children £7, but family tickets were available until about a week before. Under 3s going free. For the money, the entertainment and the atmosphere, this was a great price.

Rating: 5/5 from the S-W clan.
