Breakfast at Tiffany’s is about a fun loving, charismatic young woman named Holly Golightly – who everyone loves but nobody really knows. The production is narrated by Holly’s much loved friend and neighbour Fred. Who tells the story of how Holly crashed in and out of his life and although has a chaotic lifestyle of breaking hearts as well as rules you just can’t help but love her.
As a huge fan of renowned Breakfast at Tiffany’s film I was perhaps a bit more critical that some but this stage production of the book did not disappoint. And although being slightly disappointed that Emily Atack did not resemble the iconic look of Holy Golightly she did play the complicated and confusing character extremely well. From her enthusiastic and extraordinary happy persona to having the “mean reds” Emily was very believable. Matt Barber was equally as good as the frustrated and somewhat bewildered Fred.
There were a number of different stage settings that all looked great and moved around very professionally and with the occasional sound effect, really complimented what was happening on stage.
The King’s Theatre is a traditional very small and beautiful theatre with a welcoming warm atmosphere and ambiance. It is very comfortable and clean with extremely helpful, friendly staff. Our seats in the lower level provided an excellent view of the stage. The theatre is located in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre, so easily accessible by public transport with parking available around the theatre. There is also plenty of option for pre/post theatre drinks and food with the variety of restaurants and bars nearby.
I had a very enjoyable evening at the King’s Theatre watching this great story come to life and would definitely recommend the production to friends and family. I would give the night 3.5 stars out of 5.
