It is hard to find games which match the excitement level of their packaging, but this one does. When the box arrived, the children were instantly intrigued, but not just them, me too. The box itself looks fun, and hints at a crazy, fast paced card game. Which is exactly what it is!

As a family, we love to play games, especially in the summer months when we head out camping or on picnics. Card games are easy to carry, usually lightweight and fit into a small bag, which makes them great for places with a small table sized playing space, or enough space on the floor. You do need a bit of room for this game, as the cards have to be laid flat so it takes up a little more space than card games where the cards are held in the hand during play.

The recommended age range is eight plus, which is fair, but I think some children will be completely fine with it at younger ages. I know mine would have understood this and been able to play at around five or six, but everyone’s different, so some might struggle with the pacing and the fact that everything happens at once. My children are 15, 12 and 9, and all equally enjoyed the game, as did I (at 40) . In the box, you receive one deck of playing cards and the instructions. The cards themselves are well made and sturdy, brightly coloured and are of good quality so I’m not worried about them becoming damaged during play, which is a bonus.

This game was so easy to learn to play, the instructions are really simple and the game can be played with only two players, although it is much easier to play with more than two. We found it hard to keep up with how fast you need to swap your cards which meant that we were all in fits of giggles, all of us trying to get rid of our cards and then leaning over to block others from playing when we played a wild card. The only aim is to get rid of all 20 cards in your pile and be the first one to do it.

Everyone playing, plays at the same time, so it’s not a turn based game. It’s chaos, a blur of hands and squeals! It isn’t a quiet game, so if you’re looking for something calm for five minutes peace, this isn’t it.

This game would be perfect for those who want a very easy, fast to play game to keep entertained whilst at home or out and about. It is great for camping and for picnics, which is where it will be going with us alongside our family favourite Uno. Yes, it has earned itself a place in with Uno, which in our family is an honour.

Our family gave this game 5 out of 5 stars, and a spot in the travel games bag, for those times when you just need to decompress or fill five minutes of time. We agreed that it was just the right amount of playing time and helped to distract and refocus when needed (My son has ADHD, and this game was great for those times when he just needed a few minutes play to reset if he was feeling overwhelmed).

You can find the game here, https://direct.asda.com/george/toys-character/kids-toys/board-games-puzzles/fast-blast/060032989,default,pd.html?cgid=D30M1G1C11 for an RRP of £10. I think this is the right price point for this, and it will be well played over the summer on our travels.
