Beverley Folk Festival 2014 Update

The best in music, comedy and spoken word entertainment comes together at the award-winning Beverley Folk Festival from June 20-22.

For over 30 years Beverley Folk Festival has been producing an annual weekend event to be remembered.

Featuring the best new performers alongside some of the greatest established acts, it offers a unique opportunity to spot tomorrow’s stars and enjoy today’s greats. Little wonder it was named as a Remarkable Tourism Event in the 2014 REYTA Awards, and shortlisted for Best Family Festival at the UK Festival Awards 2013.

Located at Beverley Racecourse and adjacent to the ancient pasture land of Beverley Westwood, the event is situated in the perfect spot to ensure an unforgettable weekend.

Add in a series of ticket options for the full weekend or individual events, and Beverley is a local festival with national and international appeal set in a family-friendly environment with plenty to keep visitors of all ages entertained.

Music highlights for 2014 include Billy Bragg, Eliza and Martin Carthy, Lau, Home Service, Chas & Dave and Thea Gilmore, plus a host of up and coming artists who have made an impact in the international, national and local scenes.

The comedy line-up features John Hegley, Mitch Benn and Sean Hughes.

In a major coup, War Horse author Michael Morpurgo will read from the story, accompanied by John Tams and Barry Coope, who accompany him with the rousing yet haunting songs specially composed by John Tams for the National Theatre’s award-winning production of War Horse.

And the award-wining broadcaster Andy Kershaw brings his one-man show ‘The Adventures of Andy Kershaw’ to Beverley, telling the story of his journey from radio DJ to foreign correspondent in some of the world’s most notorious war zones.

Festival artistic director Chris Wade says: “While British folk music, both traditional and new, remains at the heart of the festival, we also feature Americana, world music, Blues, some classic rock, punk, a variety of acoustic performances, Morris sides and much more – if the music is good, we will embrace it.

“In recent years we have expanded to also encompass comedy, film, poetry, drama, literature and storytelling. Beverley Folk Festival provides a rich cultural mix, offering a weekend of memories for young and old.”
