Beautiful Patterns Creative Colouring for Grown-ups Review

Reviewed by Cath Ford

Until quite recently I would not have considered colouring in as the sort of craft I’d get involved with but having seen a lot of mandalas and colouring pages that friends have done I was pretty excited to get my hands on a copy of Beautiful Patterns (Creative Colouring for Grown-ups) and have a go for myself after all.

The first thing I noticed about the A4 sized book was the beautiful quality of the pages, lovely thick paper with a clean matt finish which meant that either ink or pencils would work well on it. The range of patterns in the book is extensive – plenty to choose from whatever your mood or the amount of time you have available.

I’m not much of an artist but I do enjoy playing with colours so having the chance to create some gorgeous pictures with patterns was very appealing – I also realised it could use the book to experiment with colours and palettes for other craft projects I do – like patch working. Once I’d managed to find a spot of ‘me time’ I settled down and managed to lose myself very quickly in the activity. Using the Beautiful Patterns book is surprisingly relaxing, one of those activities that flows around you, there are of course no rules to follow and you do as much or as little as you like, it won’t spoil or take up too much room and as a bonus, at the end of it you have something beautiful to look at. I can see them making perfect Christmas and birthday presents for lots of different people, the book would post easily and be a smashing gift to receive.

I will be looking for more of this type of book for myself as well because I’m a complete convert to creative colouring. My next mission is to find an A5 sized version I can keep in my handbag and one with pages that can come out easily afterwards because I can see they will make lovely decorations once they are framed up.
