Auslogics Driver Updater Software Review

Reviewed by David Savage

Have you ever had to reinstall your Windows operating system on your PC and then had the daunting task of finding all the drivers for your hardware devices? Maybe your install is quite old and your drivers are outdated but it seems too much of a chore to find which ones needs updating?  How many actually do check and update their drivers regularly to get the best performance out of their equipment? Driver Updater from Auslogics is a very useful utility that will check for the latest driver versions, back up and install them with very little interaction from the user.

I was asked to review the program and as I had just reinstalled Windows 8 on my laptop it was the perfect time to see how it worked. The Windows install had installed most of the drivers for my system so I was very interested to see the results.

Download and installation of the program was very simple and in a couple of clicks and 2 minutes of my time the program was installed and ready to be used.

On opening the program it did an automatic scan and within 20-30 seconds it found that 24 drivers were outdated. By clicking the “Update drivers” button the software connected to the Cloud, downloaded and installed all the relevant outdated drivers (a restart is required for the updated drivers to take effect).

Very simple and effective and the only interaction from me was to click the update button and restart a few minutes later once the update was complete.

If you want to manually back up your old drivers before starting to update (when you update automatically it does create an automatic back up) you can click on the backup button on the left hand side of the screen and select any devices/drivers that you want to back up. If you need to restore any or all previous drivers, should the new ones cause problems, just click restore and then select the back up you want to restore. Very simple. No technical knowledge needed.

Overall, Auslogics Driver Updater is a small but simple utility to keep your drivers up to date and running perfectly. The only problem I did encounter was that it kept saying my Ethernet driver was outdated, when I updated on restart it was still the old version. Having said that the other 23 outdated drivers were updated with no problems, so I’m more than happy. With a RRP of around £25 (for use on 3 PC’s) it is excellent value for money and saves a lot on time and hassle.
