This was by far the best Saturday afternoon I have ever spent. Food, drink, and entertainment was second to none. 5/5 doesn’t seem enough as it really was superb and totally under-rated. 10/10 for the staff who could not have been more accommodating.
The venue is a fabulous pub which is decorated in an eclectic mix of antique and art deco while still keeping its traditional old London pub feel. We got there early so we decided to have a drink before the show. The beers are locally brewed and the wine I had was organic Running Duck, South African Chenin Blanc which was the nicest I have ever tasted. Outside of the Saturday afternoon Bottomless brunch they also run as a standard pub and B&B. They offer a full food and drinks menu and various other events such as quiz nights.
The Bottomless Brunch menu offered a great selection of meals to suit everyone’s tastes. They also accommodate vegan diets and others so it’s worth giving them a call beforehand. We had the fish and chips which again was amazing with light batter, beautiful fish and the chips were just like your Nana used to make in a little chip pan. The homemade tartar sauce was so good we asked for another pot.
Looking around all the food looked fabulous too. Our meals were better than some I’ve eaten in central London restaurants. The drinks on offer were either the locally brewed beer or prosecco. They do say cocktails but that is prosecco with orange juice (Mimosa) not a problem for us as it was good quality. No queuing or waiting as they bring an ice bucket with a bottle of prosecco, a jug of orange juice and water which is replenished as you need.
The show – my goodness Topsie, the drag was hilarious, amazing singing voice and range of vocals which she excelled in from pop, country, soul, and opera. She read the audience perfectly. Engaged with everyone and even took requests. We were all encouraged to get up dancing which of course we did. Topsie does a number of events around the country so we will be following her and hope to attend one of her shows very soon. I believe that they have a number of drag artists that do the bottomless brunch and if they are as good as Topsie anyone attending will enjoy the afternoon as much as we did. Despite a two-hour journey to get there we will be going back. Even if we go for just food and drinks.
With such a fabulous combination of entertainment, food and drink I was really surprised that there were not many people in for either the show or as a pub. We spoke to a couple of tables of locals who hadn’t realised the pub or the show was even there. They need to advertise this East End gem of a pub more. I for one will be singing its praises from the rooftops. I really cannot recommend this place enough.
