Last night (28 March) I went to see A Night of Dirty Dancing: The Ultimate Tribute Show at St George’s Hall in Bradford, this is not the same as An Evening of Dirty Dancing. The show opened with three males dancing to Be My Baby being played, then a young lady came on next asking the audience if they liked music and what kind as her favourite was Dirty Dancing. She loved it so much she had put it on her iPod, the audience started to laugh as she was meant to be from the sixty’s era and they were not out then, she continued to ask everyone if they wanted to party with her, at that they all shouted yes, she started to sing a few songs from the film, her voice was absolutely amazing. She was then joined by the male singer who had a fantastic voice, together they sounded brilliant, they also played music and sang songs from the sixty’s era, this was a bonus as we thought it was just going to be music and songs from the film Dirty Dancing. They were also fantastic, brilliant dancer’s, the energy they had was unbelievable as were all the other six dancers, which consisted of three males and three females whose moves were so energetic and very sexy at times. At one point the male singer shouted out, Where Are You Beautiful, to which a lady from the audience shouted, I’M HERE, everyone started to laugh to which he replied, I will see you later, it was now time for a short interval.
The second part started with the two main cast singing, Love is Strange and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, at that the three male dancers came of the stage choosing some ladies out of the audience, which they took onto the stage to dance with them. The audience started to clap and cheer, on returning them to their seats, there was more dancing on stage from the six dancers then the male singer sang one of my favourites, Hungry Eyes, which he sang brilliantly, followed by Dock of the Bay and Up on the Roof while the three male dancers danced in the background. They then continued to sing together, She’s Like The Wind, which sounded really good, then Do You Love Me, and Twist and Shout, which had all the dancers off stage dancing in the aisles. Then the male singer said, where is that lady from earlier that was shouting, he came of stage shouting where are you, on finding her he gave her a cuddle, which I think made her night.
On returning to the stage there were more song and dance routines, followed by the Finale of I’ve Had The Time Of My Life and the Lift which everyone had been waiting on. I was a bit disappointed with it, as I thought they could have had a better build up to it, as it happened behind the two main singers and you couldn’t really see it that much.
Overall it was very entertaining, the energy of the cast of eight was amazing. I didn’t think anybody could put a show on like this with only eight people but it just goes to show that you obviously can.
