Barny Sponge Bars Review
Barny Sponge Bars
Reviewed by Amanda Hayes
The diet went out of the window as we tried the Barny sponge bars in our lunch boxes this week. They come in four flavours, chocolate, milk and the 2 new flavours apple and strawberry, the milk is a chocolate cake and the others are vanilla.
The cakes come individually wrapped, in a little cardboard tray and covered with silver wrapping with Barny bear on the front, this means they are perfect for lunch boxes, picnics or a quick snack whilst out and about. Inside each is a little bear either vanilla with brown paws or chocolate with vanilla paws. The bears have the flavoured filling inside both their head and tummy. We all liked the milk and chocolate, and although I found the strawberry and apple a little sweet the boys loved them. The milk was more like a vanilla cream, the chocolate was like a chocolate spread, the apple and strawberry were of jam type consistency.
I like the way the cakes held together and didn’t crumble and make a mess, great when they are being eaten on the move.
The cakes aren’t actually that fattening around 110 calories depending on flavour, so they can be eaten relatively guilt free! There is however quite a lot of sugar at 11% RDA, and although that seems to compare to most snacks these days, one is probably enough for most children.
I thought that the Barny bars were a great idea for a treat in lunch boxes or for days out especially or busy mums who don’t always have time to make a cake. I would definitely buy them again as all of the family enjoyed them.
