I received Learning Resources Numberblocks One and Two Bike Adventure through the post and it arrived promptly and was packaged really well in a box just the right size. This was our first Numberblocks toy and I was pleasantly surprised.
Our 4 year old was away when it arrived so it gave me an opportunity to have a look at it before he intercepted it. It was packaged really well and luckily didn’t need scissors to open it like other toys. The packaging suggests the plastic part of it was made from 100% recycled plastic. This is great given that we are trying to reduce our plastic waste. It was a bit disappointing that there wasn’t any confirmation that the packaging could be recycled again once it was opened. There is a QR code on the packaging that takes you to further Numberblocks toys and educational products.

When our son arrived home he saw the One and Two Bike Adventure lying on the sofa. The bright packaging and easily recognisable characters and logo meant he made a beeline for it. Demands to have the toy opened straight away were unrelenting.

Playing with the 2 figures and the bike allowed him to use his imagination and he was soon cycling the characters around the lounge. Standing the stationery bike up helped with his gross motor skills. It wasn’t difficult for me to stand the tandem upright but it did challenge our 4 year old a little (due to him being impatient) but he soon realised how easy it was to stand the figures upright. The bike was brightly coloured with each of the Numbers having their own coloured seat. Obviously our little one was keen for them to sit in the wrong numbered seats. He also pointed out that One should be at the front because One comes before Two. Either way it doesn’t affect use and also the discussions that we had about numbers, adding, subtracting all came from playing with this toy.

Not only has this increased his motor skills but it has helped by peaking his interest in numbers. He loves the Numberblocks franchise and its very recognisable to him.
He was keen to explore maths problems whilst using the figures. When asked he said One and Two were his favourite numbers because they owned a bike like him.

There were a few things that I would have improved upon, having the animated picture on the back showing that the figures had helmets on whilst on their bikes to promote good bike safety, having some maths symbols such as + – underneath their helmets could have given the toy an extra element so the figures could be used for a bit longer/more advanced conversations. The set that we had, One kept falling off the bike which meant that there needed to be more adult interaction whilst he was playing with the figures alone.
We are very fond of the Numberblocks brand; we find them very educational and make learning fun. Our boy has been playing and so nicely with the figures. I feel that the £10 RRP is very reasonable and we would definitely go out and add to the collection.
Rating: I would give this toy 4 out of 5 and would definitely recommend to friends and family for their 3 year olds as I do prefer giving education toys as gifts.
