The Conscious Academy Online Mindfulness Course Review

Despite being a holiday for many, Christmas can be a very stressful time – seeing all the family members even if you don’t really want to, buying presents, wrapping them all up, cooking loads of food, managing the kid’s boredom even though they’ve just had loads of gifts, and all the other stresses the holiday can throw at you. Sometimes it can all be a bit much and then you need a holiday from the holiday before you can get back into the swing of things! In comes Zen in Ten, an online course to teach you the art of mindfulness and meditation in just ten days.

The course is taught by Neil Seligman through a company called the Conscious Academy. It is very easy to enrol, taking just a few minutes and then you can start straight away. The course is easy to follow (which is just what you need if you’re feeling a bit stressed!) and once you are logged in you can see the full course, laid out day by day and broken down into the tasks you need to complete on each day. You start off with a short welcome video and a pre-course health checklist to make sure that the course is suitable for you before you start, and then you can launch straight into day one.

The course eases you in gently, starting with teaching you the basics so you can get set up in the art of mindfulness, allowing you to continue on the practice after the ten days with complete confidence. You will learn how to sit correctly, how to be aware of your breathing, how to scan through your body, how to navigate your thoughts, overcome negative thinking, become more emotionally aware, dealing with silence, slowing down, and how to meditate anytime, anywhere.

Each day has a short video lesson where Neil talks you through the principles of what you will be learning, a short audio that you can listen to while practising the techniques, and a link to an information sheet and progress tracker for you to fill in each day. Neil’s videos are calming and help you get into the right mind space for the session each day. You can complete the video and the audio in roughly ten minutes so it really doesn’t take up too much of your time to learn the techniques. This is really important as you know you can just complete the day’s session before bed or similar, when you have a few spare moments.

This is an excellent course which takes the time to carefully teach you the basic techniques to help you practise mindfulness and meditation whenever and wherever you need to, to help you get “Zen in Ten”. Neil is a great teacher who is very calming and clear in his explanations, and you can revisit each day in the course as often as you need to, to remind yourself of the tricks and tips. I found this course extremely helpful to chill out and I was easily able to fit it in just before I went to bed each evening.
