ToucanBox is a flexible subscription box aimed at children aged 3-8 years old. Each box encourages children to craft, learn and be creative through arts and crafts activities. The activities inside the box are built by educational experts so as well as being fun they help to develop key skills and focus on STEAM subjects.

My son was sent a toucanBox to try out this week. One of the great things about the box is that it easily fits through the letterbox! My son loves to get creative, messy and be imaginative with hands on making. We try to set aside an hour at a weekend to spend some time being creative as a family. This can be drawing, painting, modelling or even seeing. This weekend was a bit wet and dreary so it was a perfect time to open the toucanBox. When we opened the thin cardboard box my son was really excited to see that he had to open each side separately through the perforations to reveal the surprise inside. He opted for the left side first. The box we received featured a painting activity. I loved that absolutely everything required was in the kit. All the paints, tape, glue etc was included. My son straight away got stuck into the activity. The step by step instructions were well detailed with text and also pictures. My 6 year old was able to work through with only a little bit of help from me. The activity kept him engaged and took around an hour. I was delighted that after he’d finished he wanted to move onto the second activity straight away which shows how fun and engaging the crafts are. The second activity involved creating a labyrinth. Once it was finished he was then able to play with his creation. In fact each toucanBox has crafts that then turn into interactive toys, role play and toys. I really like that the items can continue to be played with.

Also in the box was a 28 page full colour magazine. The magazine is divided into sections covering Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. There were puzzles, mazes, colouring pages and also experiments. My son was really fascinated by the magazine and has repeatedly come back to it.

The toucanBox can be personalised with your child’s name and age and then is posted out. There is no commitment and once you’ve signed up you are able to change the frequency of deliveries. A monthly delivery costs £10.95 plus £2.95 for delivery. Considering how much my son enjoyed the crafts and how long he was kept busy I think this is ideal for a rainy day or school holidays when you need something to keep children occupied. Especially as everything needed was supplied making it good value for money. I felt that the box and all the parts were of very high quality and it appeared that a lot of thought and care had gone into creating it. A toucanBox delivery through the letterbox would definitely make any child excited!
