I’m sure anyone with preschool children in the house will be familiar with the You Tube channel CoComelon staring the baby J J and his family. Just like any toddler J J goes to nursery where he has lots of friends, loves being with his family, going into town and singing songs. The animation is very bold and bright and the songs are very catchy, the kind that stick in your head for hours. The stories and characters are the type that could be recognised by children all over the world and help children learn letters, numbers, colours and more.
CoComelon is a very unusual word and I have no idea what it means but it does seem to appeal to the preschool children the show is aimed at.
I have watched a few episodes myself and find the ultra bright animation mesmerising. The toddler in our family can’t get enough of it and is drawn to anything with J J on it so I knew the school bus would be well received.
The yellow school bus is made from strong plastic and a jointed J J figure is included that fits into the seats of the bus. There are a total of six seats and a pack of six figures of family and friends can be purchased separately/ The bus has an open top so access to place the figures in the seats is very easy. The bus has a smooth wheeling action and is easy to push along the carpet. When the silver front grill of the bus is pushed it plays a random selection of noises. It could be the sound J J giggling, a short blast of circus type music, the buses horn or a few lines of that well know song “the wheels of the bus”. This song features a lot on the CoComelon shows and of course is what you would expect from a toy bus. Unfortunately the verse they chose to feature on this toy was the doors on the bus open and shut and the doors on the toy do not actually open. Our toddler picked up on this straight away as soon as she heard the verse she tried the bus doors and was disappointed that they didn’t open. Maybe the manufacturer has underestimated the intelligence of a toddler with this.

Distributed by the company Bandai the bus is suitable for children 2+. It requires 2x AAA batteries but comes fitted with demonstration batteries, the packaging is minimal and the cardboard can be recycled. Priced at £22.99 the bus is available from smythstoys.com. The figure pack that I mentioned earlier is also available from the same web site priced at £19.99.
Thinking of Easter approaching this toy will be providing hours of play long after all the chocolate eggs have been eaten and bring a smile to the face of any fan of CoComelon and the parents I’m sure will love to be serenaded by that song “all day long”.
