Any visit to Blenheim Palace truly is an unforgettable experience and so it was with great excitement that we arrived at Britains’ Greatest Palace for the Christmas Light event. This Christmas, Blenheim has three spectacular attractions, a Christmas Market, new for 2021, The Story of the Nutcracker re-imagined within the Palace and the after-dark Christmas Illuminated Lights trail.

With over 300 years of history and sitting in 2000 acres of beautiful grounds, Blenheim Palace is renowned for being the home to the Dukes of Marlborough and Sir Winston Churchill. It was certainly the perfect setting for picture-perfect festive joy.

It is not easy to describe the wonder and magic of the Blenheim Palace Christmas event. It truly is a spectacular experience and is guaranteed to amaze all generations. We were warmly greeted on arrival and staff at Blenheim went out of their way throughout the evening to make our experience a special one.

The Christmas Market in the courtyard, with the beautiful background of the Palace’s impressive façade was a magical start to our evening. The traditional stalls added to the atmosphere and there was a great range of independent sellers – all very tempting! We decided to treat ourselves to warming hot chocolates to take on the light trail – just perfect!

We then gathered at the entrance to the light trail and with great anticipation started our trail. The light trail is an incredible multi-sensory experience and guaranteed to take anyone on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster in the true spirit of Christmas. You can set your own pace around the trail and I would highly recommend taking your time and enjoy lingering at special moments.

Appealing to all ages and perfect for all the family to enjoy, the trail was simple to navigate and suitable for buggies and prams. As we me moved through the many different elements, it was amazing how the animations, music and sensory experiences were so well integrated with incredible attention to detail. For each, just as we thought we had seen the best it would be surpassed by the next!

With beautiful, lit up pathways, a magical tunnel of light and an incredible laser show this was a Christmas experience to surpass all others. For me, the most moving garden of flower lights was a particular highlight, evoking not just feelings of Christmas but also thoughts of remembrance. Without spoiling any surprises, there was also a special visitor for little ones halfway round!

Continuing with the Christmas spirit, we followed our light trail with a visit to the Palace rooms, to be transported through The Story of The Nutcracker, uniquely brought to life. Moving through a series of rooms, the story delightfully unfolded with real magic in the air. The Christmas decorations and many trees in each room were simply breathtaking, cleverly coordinating with both the room, the theme and the story. It is simply hard to describe in words the spellbindingly beauty of the Palace at Christmas.

It was also very special for our visit to the Palace to finish at the lovely, beautiful Palace chapel before we made our way home.

Christmas at Blenheim Palace is truly a most special, magical experience for all and we absolutely loved every minute! Most highly recommended for a Christmas experience to surpass all others!
