I have to admit I’ve never owned an apron but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t thought about getting myself one. I love the idea of having a ‘kitchen uniform’ and imagine it will of course excel my chef skills just by wearing one! When I give it some thought however, it just appears to be one of those things that I’ve never got around to purchasing. So when I was asked to review this Polkapants apron, I didn’t need think about it; of course it’s something that has been absent from my life and I wanted to find out what I was missing. The parcel arrived quickly and the apron itself was wrapped nicely, upon opening the package I realised that this wasn’t just any apron; it was beautiful and unusual and promised to add some glam to my equally beautiful and unusual cooking….ahem.

The apron I received was from the Polkapants DOT collection called the Frill Story – Statement Sleeve and that is exactly what I would call it – a statement! This apron was a lovely pastel green but also comes in a range of different colours including yellow, black, pink and lilac. The frill ran from the top shoulders down to the waist on both sides and was definitely an eye-catching feature of the apron. I couldn’t wait to put it on. But I had to because, I have to admit, I had no clue how to fasten it. It wasn’t just a question of tying it around the back of my waist. At this point I had to admit that I turned to Google to figure it out as it wasn’t so straight forward. Instructions would have been helpful.
Once I’d figured out this though, it was obvious that the way the straps were tied were also an attractive feature of the apron, making it look even more unusual. The apron is made from 100% cotton which looks really fresh and clean and feels lovely. It’s the sort of item that makes you feel glamorous even when you are doing the least glamorous of chores and I’m all for that – anything to add a little spice and excitement to the everyday.

It would certainly attract attention when you have guests and for me brings up images of a domestic Goddess who truly has everything in hand and is never flustered – just what I need in the kitchen! I’m so glad that I popped my apron cherry with this beautiful and sophisticated piece from Polkapants. It really has made me wonder why I’ve never owned an apron so far. If you want to indulge yourself then Polkapants would be an ideal choice, they take an iconic home accessory and add a modern and attractive twist to it.
This Apron would make an absolutely wonderful present for that person who, like me, would like an apron but would never indulge themselves. It would make a truly unique and thoughtful Christmas gift for that chef in your life.
Rating: I give it a 4/5 as I think it is a truly wonderful item that will add a flavoursome twist to any kitchen.
