The summer holidays are here at last and with a lot of families enjoying a staycation this year, you may be looking for fun ideas for long summer evenings or rainy afternoons. Card games are one easy option, but they tend to be suitable for the very young, like pairs or more experienced players like poker. If you are looking for a entertaining and amusing, multi age group card game, look no further than Kids Against Maturity. The game comes in one simple blue box, with plain white branding depicting a stick family so it really stands out on the shelf. Although the box is compact it is heavy, due to the large amount of cards, and definitely more suited to popping in the car then adding to your flight luggage, so if you are camping or self-catering this year it’s the perfect game for you to take.
The rules are simple, there are two types of card, blue question cards and white answer cards, a total of 600 cards, and each player takes a question card and 10 answer cards. Each person then takes it in turn to read their question card and everyone replies answering from one of their cards. The question cards can be actual questions, such as; What’s in Puss’s Boots? but most are phrases or sayings with a blank word to complete. An example would be, Mary had a little ___. Answer cards range from toilet humour, Superman’s skid marks, to the more mundane, milking a cow. The winner of the round is the answer that makes the others laugh the most, you decide between the group whose is the funniest phrase. At the end of the game you can count up your cards, and those with the highest number of funny answers is the winner.
Depending on the age group playing you can remove some of inappropriate answer cards, but none are particularly risqué, more toilet humour. Some however, we didn’t understand so we removed those as we went along. The game is best played with plenty of people, I would say a minimum of 4 players, and the best age group is around 8 years upwards, although you could reduce the cards to age appropriate to play with younger children. There is start and finish to the game but from 30-60 minutes is probably long enough, maybe longer with more participants. We had fun playing this but there are only 3 of us and I feel it would be much better with more people. As an evening BBQ game, with a few beers I think it would be even better.
With the 600 cards in the box you end up with over 40,000 combinations of questions and answers, so you can play over again with no fear of repeating yourself any time soon. I felt it was a little overpriced at £19.99 and a little heavy for travelling but for games nights, staycations, parties and Christmas it’s a great little game, all you need is a sense of humour!
