I had two very excited children this week when I told them that we were being sent Moon Shoes to review as they had apparently seen them advertised on the television and so knew all about them. I however had no idea. But with the weather warming up now as we come into Spring/Summer time, I’m looking for ways to encourage my children to spend more time outside in our garden.
So firstly an explanation of what they are. Basically Moon Shoes are like miniature trampolines that attach to your feet so that you can jump around or up and down and they allow you to ‘defy gravity’ and help to develop balance and coordination.
They are made of high density quality plastic to be able to withstand the weight when jumping with adjustable nylon and Velcro straps to keep them secured. They have a non skid, grip surface on the bottom.
The Moon Shoes arrived in a large cardboard box and inside were the two shoe platforms, the two bases, a bag of large rubber bands and an instruction sheet. Before we could play the Moon Shoes needed assembling. No tools are required. The instructions were concise and clear. The platforms need to be attached to the bases using rubber bands that attach to band posts. This part definitely needed adult help as the bands were tricky to put on as they needed pulling tight and I was worried my children would hurt their fingers. We only needed a handful of the bands as my children are little but you can add more or less depending on the weight of the user. The instruction sheet had a handy table that explained the number needed based on weight.
After this we were ready to go. It’s recommended to wear trainers when using the Moon Shoes, you slip your foot in and tighten with the Velcro straps then start bouncing. They were quite tricky at first, definitely something requiring some practice. I would say similar to roller skates. For safety reasons these should only be used outdoors and I would say best on grass as you may fall down a lot to begin with! When my son started jumping he really did lift quite far, it looked as though he was bouncing on a trampoline. He needed to hold a hand at first to get his balance but found it very fun. It’s certainly a great way to get children outdoors more.
The Moon Shoes are recommended for 7 + years and can fit up to an adults size 7 shoe. For this reason I think they are also perfect older children/teenagers as I think they are a novel toy that all the family can enjoy in the garden over the summer. They are priced at £30.00 which I think is good value for money as they look long lasting and I think my children will enjoy them in the garden for years to come.
