The Case of the Frightened Lady at the Waterside Theatre, Aylesbury Review

Another pleasant experience at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury, this time it was to see Edgar Wallace’s classic thriller, ‘The Case of the Frightened Lady’.

Upon arrival the staff were welcoming, friendly and enthusiastic and the facilities were clean and well presented. We were sat in the stalls for this performance and enjoyed a fabulous view of the stage.

The Case of the Frightened Lady is a thriller and a who did it murder mystery play with a clear focus on aristocracy and heritage.

The entire cast executed the play brilliantly and kept the audience firmly on their toes with regards to who the perpetrator could be. Just when I thought I had it figured out, that character was murdered themselves; just as the curtain came down for the interval. Great for building suspense for the second half of the show! During the interval there were many discussions throughout the audience each discussing their own theories, us included! Throughout the play there were many unexpected plot twists and turns which truly kept the audience on the edge of their seats. During one of many revelations I heard a lady behind me gasp and say, ‘I wasn’t expecting that!’ and I remember thinking exactly the same!

The cast consisted of many familiar faces and as a huge EastEnders fan I was delighted to see Charlie Clements on stage as Detective Sergeant Totti alongside Rula Lenska as Lady Lebanon. A superbly talented cast indeed.

The scenery props and set on stage was very well detailed and perfectly accompanied with impressive sound and lighting effects. All of which contributed to the suspense and atmosphere. A huge well done to the production team and to all who were involved in bringing this play to life.

My daughter and I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening!
