JML Direct Hover Ball Review

I had never heard of the Hover Ball, an indoor football, from JML Direct so before receiving it I was quite excited to trying to see how it works. Once it arrived, to say I was underwhelmed was an understatement, it doesn’t hover! That said, my little 4 year old twin helpers love it!
The Hover Ball, as already mentioned, does not hover as the name suggests. It glides effortlessly across the floor (indoor surfaces, not outside). It looks like half a football and is made of soft foam with a plastic base that allows it to glide.
So, what is the point? Well it can be kicked around the house and will stay at floor level, no bouncing around like a ball so won’t bounce up and break anything. As kids love to kick balls around this is a great idea, they can still kick a ball, but it is always going to stay on the floor.
Overall, as a concept the idea is great and the kids love it. I was just disappointed with the misleading name, as with hover in the title, I expected it to hover. Because of the plastic base that doesn’t reach the edge of the ball it will give the appearance of hovering slightly as the foam part of the ball will be raised off the ground by a few millimetres.
We have been using it for a few weeks and it does stay on the ground and glides across laminate flooring and carpet with ease. And no breakages. It has had a lot of knocks into chairs, radiator pipes and door frames and has some slight damage to the foam in the form of nicks and scuff marks (which is to be expected with the amount of use it has had), but nothing too great.
As an indoor football to practice kicking a ball and develop ball skills, it is excellent. I just feel the name should be different as its glides not hovers (but that’s just me, the kids don’t care what it is called and just play with it having lots of fun and giggles).
